SUMMARY:Mental Health Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:Te Tiratū Iwi Māori Partnership Board is proud to back Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) – an important kaupapa for our people. \nLed by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand\, MHAW is a time to kōrero\, reflect\, and take small steps that support our mental wellbeing — individually and collectively. Each year\, the campaign offers a fresh theme\, practical resources\, and community-led activities that help reduce stigma and strengthen our understanding of mental health. \nFor Te Tiratū\, this week is also about honouring the mātauranga and cultural strengths that support oranga wairua — spiritual and mental wellbeing — especially for our Māori and Pasifika whānau. \nLet’s come together this September to uplift each other\, listen deeply\, and take care of our minds\, hearts\, and communities. Because mental wellbeing is a taonga — and it belongs to all of us. \nCheck out the Mental Health Awareness Week website for more.

SUMMARY:Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2025
DESCRIPTION:Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is an annual celebration for all New Zealanders to show their support for the Māori language\, an official language of this country. \nTe Tiratū Iwi Māori Partnership Board proudly tautoko Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2025\, recognising the importance of reclaiming and revitalising and strengthening our reo Māori for future generations. This kaupapa not only acknowledges the richness of te reo but also the cultural significance it holds for whānau\, hapū\, and iwi across Aotearoa. \nTe Wiki o te Reo Māori is an opportunity to reflect on the role of language in shaping identity and building stronger connections with the whenua (land)\, whānau (family)\, and iwi (tribes). By supporting te reo Māori\, we honour the past and embrace a future where Māori language and culture continue to thrive. \nJoin us this year in celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori\, and let’s come together to speak\, learn\, and support the growth of te reo Māori in our communities. Check out the official website for more.

SUMMARY:Te Wiki Hauora Wāhine - Women's Health Week
DESCRIPTION:At Te Tiratū\, we’re proud to support Te Wiki Hauora – Wāhine Women’s Health Week 2024 — because our wāhine deserve to be seen\, heard\, and well. \nThis week is about more than awareness. It’s about reminding every woman — cis\, trans\, and gender-diverse — that your health matters\, your story matters\, and your hauora is worth prioritising. \nAcross the motu\, wāhine are doing the mahi — juggling whānau\, mahi\, care roles\, and community leadership — often putting themselves last. That has to change. \nWāhine Māori face some of the biggest health inequities in Aotearoa. But they also carry the strength\, wisdom\, and leadership to change the story. Te Tiratū backs this kaupapa because we know that when wāhine are well\, their whānau\, hapori\, and mokopuna flourish too. \nThis week\, let’s kōrero. Let’s ask the hard questions\, book the overdue check-ups\, listen to our bodies\, and support each other. Let’s make health a collective responsibility\, not an individual burden. \nBecause our wāhine are the heart of our communities. And their wellbeing can’t wait. \nCheck out the Womens’ Health Week website for more.

SUMMARY:Matariki
DESCRIPTION:Te Tiratū Iwi Māori Partnership Board is counting down to celebrating Matariki on 20 June this year! \nMatariki marks the rising of the Māori New Year and is a significant time in Aotearoa’s cultural calendar. As the Matariki star cluster shines brightly in the winter sky\, communities across the country come together to reflect on the past year\, honour the present\, and prepare for the year ahead. \nFor our people the knowledge of the stars and their movements has been passed down through generations\, intricately connected to the whenua (land)\, moana (ocean)\, lakes\, and awa (rivers). Each star in the Matariki cluster holds its own qualities\, providing guidance and wisdom for the future. \nHistorically\, Matariki was celebrated by iwi to gather\, share kai (food)\, kōrero (stories)\, and acknowledge the turning of the year through ceremony and entertainment. These celebrations were rooted in whakapapa (ancestry)\, fostering a deep connection with the land and the celestial beings. \nThough Matariki was traditionally celebrated by iwi\, the cultural renaissance in the early 21st century has led to it becoming a national event. Today\, Matariki embraces Aotearoa’s unique traditions\, stories\, and respect for the whenua. \nWe encourage Aotearoa to honour our sacred time of year\, reflect on the past\, celebrate the present\, and prepare for the future with respect for the land and each other. For more information check out the Matariki Festival website.

SUMMARY:Te Wiki Hauora Tāne - Men's Health Week
DESCRIPTION:At Te Tiratū\, we stand with the kaupapa of Te Wiki Hauora Tāne – Men’s Health Week because our tāne deserve better — better health\, better support\, and better chances at long\, fulfilling lives. \nFor one week in June each year\, Men’s Health Week reminds us that small steps lead to powerful change. But for our whānau\, especially our Māori and Pasifika men\, one week isn’t enough. \nToo many of our tāne are lost too early to illnesses that are preventable. Eight whānau every day lose a father\, partner\, or tupuna to something that didn’t need to take them. That’s not right — and it’s something we can change. \nMāori men are living shorter lives\, facing higher rates of heart disease\, diabetes\, and suicide. The statistics are clear\, but they are not our destiny. \nTe Tiratu backs Men’s Health Week as part of a bigger movement: a commitment to oranga — physical\, mental\, and spiritual wellbeing — rooted in whakapapa and mana motuhake. \nThis June\, and every day after\, let’s kōrero with our tāne. Let’s get checked. Let’s move more. Let’s show up — for ourselves\, for our whānau\, and for the generations to come. \nBecause our lives matter. Our men matter. Check out the Men’s Health Week website for more.
