SUMMARY:Matariki
DESCRIPTION:Te Tiratū Iwi Māori Partnership Board is counting down to celebrating Matariki on 20 June this year! \nMatariki marks the rising of the Māori New Year and is a significant time in Aotearoa’s cultural calendar. As the Matariki star cluster shines brightly in the winter sky\, communities across the country come together to reflect on the past year\, honour the present\, and prepare for the year ahead. \nFor our people the knowledge of the stars and their movements has been passed down through generations\, intricately connected to the whenua (land)\, moana (ocean)\, lakes\, and awa (rivers). Each star in the Matariki cluster holds its own qualities\, providing guidance and wisdom for the future. \nHistorically\, Matariki was celebrated by iwi to gather\, share kai (food)\, kōrero (stories)\, and acknowledge the turning of the year through ceremony and entertainment. These celebrations were rooted in whakapapa (ancestry)\, fostering a deep connection with the land and the celestial beings. \nThough Matariki was traditionally celebrated by iwi\, the cultural renaissance in the early 21st century has led to it becoming a national event. Today\, Matariki embraces Aotearoa’s unique traditions\, stories\, and respect for the whenua. \nWe encourage Aotearoa to honour our sacred time of year\, reflect on the past\, celebrate the present\, and prepare for the future with respect for the land and each other. For more information check out the Matariki Festival website.

SUMMARY:Te Wiki Hauora Tāne - Men's Health Week
DESCRIPTION:At Te Tiratū\, we stand with the kaupapa of Te Wiki Hauora Tāne – Men’s Health Week because our tāne deserve better — better health\, better support\, and better chances at long\, fulfilling lives. \nFor one week in June each year\, Men’s Health Week reminds us that small steps lead to powerful change. But for our whānau\, especially our Māori and Pasifika men\, one week isn’t enough. \nToo many of our tāne are lost too early to illnesses that are preventable. Eight whānau every day lose a father\, partner\, or tupuna to something that didn’t need to take them. That’s not right — and it’s something we can change. \nMāori men are living shorter lives\, facing higher rates of heart disease\, diabetes\, and suicide. The statistics are clear\, but they are not our destiny. \nTe Tiratu backs Men’s Health Week as part of a bigger movement: a commitment to oranga — physical\, mental\, and spiritual wellbeing — rooted in whakapapa and mana motuhake. \nThis June\, and every day after\, let’s kōrero with our tāne. Let’s get checked. Let’s move more. Let’s show up — for ourselves\, for our whānau\, and for the generations to come. \nBecause our lives matter. Our men matter. Check out the Men’s Health Week website for more.
